Chevening Journalism Fellowship (South Asia) 2023-2024

Chevening South Asia Journalism fellowship is a fellowship targeted at journalists who are in the middle of their journalism careers from South Asian countries like Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.

The fellowship is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office and is hosted by the University of Westminster. The program involves eight weeks of intensive lectures, visits, and discussions that will introduce the students to important UK academics, media, and political figures in the field of Journalism.

The eight-week fellowship is titled “Good Governance in a changing world: the Media, Politics, and Society”. The program will introduce fellows to the range of approaches taken by the UK and South Asia region and will teach them how to use that knowledge to direct discussions that will tackle the big issues challenging the field.

Eligibility Requirements for the Chevening Journalism Fellowship

The eligibility requirements for the scholarship include:

  • To be eligible, you must be a citizen of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, or the Maldives.
  • Be ready to return to your country of citizenship at the end of the program.
  • Applicants must have a postgraduate level qualification or have equivalent professional training or experience in a relevant area at the time of application.
  • Applicants must have at least seven years of work experience before applying.
  • Applicants for the scholarship must not hold British or dual- British citizenship.
  • Applicants must be mid-career journalists working in the political or economic sectors in the Chevening South Asia journalism fellowship eligible countries and must have a good working knowledge of English to be assessed in their application form and if you are invited for an interview.
  • Applicants for the fellowship must agree to adhere to all the relevant guidelines and expectations of the fellowship.
